Green Suits is a surreal platformer stroke JRPG filled with Escher architecture and paranormal investigators

Sometimes I feel that my taste in media is a bit hard to pin down, given that I like shows like Twin Peaks and manga like Chainsaw Man, two series where their similarities mostly stop and start at featuring governmental figures. Enter Green Suits, a game whose dev describes it as those two things fused together, throwing in JRPGs, platforming, and a "drama-based combat system," to make a concoction that feels catered to me personally. Microsoft reportedly add Arkane and their Blade game to the potential shuttering pile

There's a lot of whispers about studios shutting down around Microsoft and Xbox at the moment. They've been primarily fluttering between Double Fine, Ninja Theory, and Compulsion, but this week has now seen State of Decay developer Undead Labs added to the list of "companies Xbox bought to build up Game Pass but are ultimately shuttering because they've done a bad job at making line go up." And now yet more reports have emerged, with what remains of Arkane potentially being put up on the chopp

Disassembling the Steam Machine suggests Valve are protecting its precious RAM by burying it under a dozen other parts

I, uh, completely took apart a Steam Machine by accident. What began as merely wanting a closer look at its RAM setup ended up as a more-or-less full teardown, the heavily layered, almost Russian Doll-like structure of Valve’s teeny-tiny PC demanding a component be removed for a component to be removed for a component to be removed. Before I’d even noticed my screwdrivin’ arm getting tired, the Machine’s guts lay strewn across my desk – not too gorily to put back t

IO Interactive look set for layoffs as their external partner for Project Fantasy pulls out

Sigh. It's another one of those days, as layoffs are essentially imminent yet again, this time at 007 First Light and Hitman developer IO Interactive. The studio shared a post earlier today regarding their as-of-yet not formally revealed Project Fantasy, in which they shared that their "relationship with an external partner… has come to and end." Guns of Eschaton is a wild west soulslike FPS and posthumous release from the art director of Half-Life 2

Last year, the art director behind titans of visual design like Half-Life 2 and Dishonored, Viktor Antonov, died at the age of 53. Prior to his death, in 2022 he co-founded Eschatology Entertainment with Dmytro Kostiukevych, Fuad Kuliev and Boris Nikolaev, who were yet to announce their first game formally. But today it's been revealed and it's called Guns of Eschaton, the "world’s first soulslike FPS." Read more

I attended a Tomb Raider and Horizon developer's boss design masterclass and came away both weary and enchanted

The following sparkling insights about boss battle design are from Marcin Matuszczyk, principal gameplay designer on Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, and a former developer of Outriders and Horizon Forbidden West. He was speaking to an audience of budding Bowser-builders and Sephiroth-sculptors during a presentation at Digital Dragons this year. That said, gamedev panels can make dry reading for lowly laypeople, so for dramatic purposes, I would like you to pretend that the below is voiced by

Nivalis has a new name and a release date that will make your autumn backlog even bigger

It's looking like autumn will be a nice little season for the cyberpunk genre. There's the long awaited Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, which got a lush looking trailer earlier this week. And now, Cloudpunk developer Ion Lands are here with a concrete release date for Nivalis, and a slightly new game for the futuristic restaurant managing life sim too. Read more

Ground Branch, a first-person tactical shooter from an original Rainbow Six dev, is finally hitting v1.0 after eight years in early access

I don't want to call Adam Smith lazy, but since first writing about Ground Branch's Kickstarter campaign back in 2012, he's not given a single update on the tactical shooter's development. He'll say that he's not got a moment to spare, what with being the writing director over at Larian, but I say it's just a matter of optimising your time. Well, I guess I'll just fill in the blanks.
